MINISTRIES @ THE OAK
Praise Dance Mission Statement: Worship, glorify and honor God through spiritual dance while ministering to His people, including the broken and lost. Strengthening and developing in ministry and relationship with God, trusting Him to take The Oak family to new spiritual heights.
Ladies of O-A-K
This step team is open to young ladies ages 5 to 10 (“Little Ladies”) and up to age 18. Performances include Generation Y.E.S. Sundays and other church and community events. Rehearsals, usually held for eight weeks leading up to schedule performances, are Thursdays at 7 p.m.
Brides of Christ
For ages 18 and older. Must be a member of the church and complete a new members class. Interested persons must complete a questionnaire. Once requirements are completed, names will be submitted to leadership for approval.
Collegiate Praise Dancers
For ages 17-24. Must be a member of the church and complete a new members class. Interested persons must complete a questionnaire. Once requirements are completed, names will be submitted to leadership for approval.
Gen Y Praise Dancers
Praise dancers minister through liturgical dance on Generation Y.E.S. Sundays. Open to girls ages 4 to 17. Rehearsals, usually held for eight weeks leading up to schedule performances, are Thursdays at 7 p.m. and on Saturdays.
Mimes minister through liturgical dance on Generation Y.E.S. Sundays. Open to boys ages 9 to 17. Rehearsals, usually held for eight weeks leading up to schedule performances, are Thursdays at 7 p.m. and on Saturdays.
Anointed Voices Choir
A gospel choir that leads worship at the 10 a.m. Service, as well as special occasions like church visits, concerts, and funerals. Ages 18 and over.
Generation Y.E.S. Choir
Youth choir leads worship during Generation Y.E.S. Sundays held third Sunday of every month at the 10:00 a.m. Worship Service. Open to all children and youth.
Voices of Praise
A gospel ensemble that leads at the 10:00 a.m. Worship Service, as well as other special occasions. Because the group is small by design, members are required to have choir experience and strong voices.
Community Service and Outreach
Grant Writing Ministry
This ministry helps secure public and private funding for operational, evangelical and outreach efforts at The Oak. Meetings held as needed. Experience with grant writing and research helpful but not required.
Youth Explosion Team
Help plan and coordinate all activities and programs related to Youth Explosion during August, including the Back to School Jam. Responsibilities include soliciting sponsorships and contacting vendors. Fundraising skills helpful but not required.
Abundant Life Crusaders Walking Ministry
This group meets weekly for fitness walks. All fitness levels are welcome and you walk at your own pace. Walks begin on Saturday mornings at 7:30 a.m. in the parking lot of Duval County Public Schools building, 1701 Prudential Drive.
The “Oakland Athletics” are the sports teams of the church, providing socializing through various sports for youth and adults in a Christian environment.
Eastside Alcoholics Anonymous
A.A. is a fellowship of men and women who share their experience, strength and hope with each other to achieve sobriety. Meetings are held at the church on Fridays from 8 to 9 p.m. and have been for the past 34 years.
“True Love Never Dies” Married Couples Ministry
All Married Couples of The Oak are invited to enjoy food, fun and fellowship together, no matter if you’ve been married 5 days or 50 years. This ministry plans a yearly retreat for Married Couples and other outings.
New Members Ministry
Volunteers with this group are among the first to interact with new members once they join. This ministry also facilitates orientation classes for new members.
N.O.W.W., which stands for No Opportunity Wasted to Worship, is the young adult ministry of the church focused on ages 18 to 35 (though we are flexible with the age range). Activities are held monthly, including community service and fellowship.
Seasoned Saints that are 55 years of age and older.
Each Thursday from 10 a.m. to noon, members of this ministry visit The Oak’s sick and shut in members. Volunteers also send flowers to the hospital-bound and cards and care packages to members serving in the Armed Forces.
V.I.P. (Visitors in Touch with Praising)
Members of this ministry greet visitors and host them at a special reception following services on Sunday. Must have a warm and positive attitude.
Teachers needed to facilitate Small Group Bible Study Classes on Wednesdays from 6:30 to 8:15 p.m. and Sundays from 9:30 a.m. to 11.00 a.m. . Administrators, as well as assistants/teachers aides also needed.
Committee decorates the sanctuary and entire church building for holiday seasons and special events. This group keeps our church looking beautiful.
Gen Y Adult Volunteers
Responsible for on-going development and implementation of Gen Y programs, including motivational events, incentive parties, service projects, fundraising and travel. Background check required.
This ministry presents the Oak Café on Wednesday evenings and also caters meals during special events and funerals. Some volunteers help in the kitchen, but others are needed to assist with set up, clean up, decorating, serving, and other support services.
Records and streams worship services and special events. Responsibilities include Web site maintenance, CD/DVD production, running the sound boards, cameras and video switching. Computer skills are helpful, but no experience is required.
Produces “The Oak” newsletter on the First Sunday of each month. Help needed with writing articles, compiling new members’ information, photography, design/layout and producing the newsletter. Knowledge of Microsoft Publisher is helpful, but no experience required.
The nursery is currently open during the 10:00 a.m. Worship Service for children ages 2 to 5. Workers are needed to assist in the nursery. Must pass background check.
