The Value of a Diamond in the Rough

I Samuel 22: 1-2, ESV

David departed from there and escaped to the cave of Adullam. And when his brothers and all his father's house heard it, they went down there to him. And everyone who was in distress, and everyone who was in debt, and everyone who was bitter in soul, gathered to him. And he became commander over them. And there were with him about four hundred men.


A crucible is a time of extreme testing and challenge.  Diamonds are forged in the earth, but refined through the process of cutting.  What will this season expose about us? 

How will we be both refined, fortified and exposed through our cave experiences?   

1. The value of a diamond in the rough is most apparent in the midst of adversity - the crucible

2. Great treasure is in the eye of the beholder - GOD will connect us with relationships who can see the treasure we are authentically are, even when we are in the cave. 

3. When you realize that you are a treasure, your leadership is often birthed under the radar and in places of obscurity - our legacy must be bigger than the temporary brightness of the limelight.
