Shook, But Not Stopped

Shook, But Not Stopped

Haggai 2: 6-9, ESV

For thus says the Lord of hosts: Yet once more, in a little while, I will shake the heavens and the earth and the sea and the dry land. And I will shake all nations, so that the treasures of all nations shall come in, and I will fill this house with glory, says the Lord of hosts. The silver is mine, and the gold is mine, declares the Lord of hosts. The latter glory of this house shall be greater than the former, says the Lord of hosts. And in this place I will give peace, declares the Lord of hosts.’”

God has the providential prerogative to shake:

1.    Creation

2.    Governmental Systems

3.    Wealth

Why? Because all of creation and all of the resources of creation belong to  GOD as the Creator.  Being shook by GOD’s presence brings humanity into a place of holy wonder and awe of the central place GOD should have in our lives.  GOD disrupts our priorities so that we can be re-centered in GOD.  Shaking is not the end goal, peace, restoration and GOD’s glory are.

1.    GOD resources will be reclaimed by GOD and redistributed by GOD so that they can be properly utilized for GOD’s communal glory – resources are not to be hoarded, but they are vehicles by which GOD blesses us in community.

2.    GOD’s eternal shalom (peace) is the aim of shaking even though shaking feels violent and disruptive.

3.    The special providential purposes of GOD’s divine disruption restores those who have been dislocated, exploited.  GOD restore, brings peace and glorifies GOD’s House for all to see and experience!  Don’t stop even when you feel shook!
